Optimizes Marketing and Boosts Viewership
with Data-Driven Insights

AMC Networks (AMCN) is the global entertainment company home to many of the greatest stories and characters in TV and film and the premier destination for passionate and engaged fan communities around the world. Its portfolio includes targeted streaming services AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now, ALLBLK and HIDIVE; cable networks AMC, BBC AMERICA (which includes U.S. distribution and sales responsibilities for BBC News), IFC, SundanceTV and We TV; and film distribution labels IFC Films and RLJE Films. The Company also operates AMC Studios, its in-house studio, production and distribution operation behind acclaimed and fan-favorite original franchises including The Walking Dead Universe and the Anne Rice Immortal Universe; and AMC Networks International, its international programming business.

CHALLENGE

In the highly competitive world of streaming, AMC Networks needs to constantly acquire, engage, and retain audiences by premiering new programming and leaning into its vast content library. This is especially important when planning for the release of new instalments of key franchises like The Walking Dead Universe. To help ensure growth, the company needed a way to optimize its merchandising strategy, boost audience awareness, drive engagement and effectively time marketing efforts around key premieres.

AMCN turned to Looper Insights to leverage a data-driven solution that would allow them to better optimize their marketing strategy across partner platforms. This collaboration provided insights that enabled the company to strategically plan paid and earned media efforts to maximize viewership while benchmarking success ahead of major releases, including the original series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and the original film Late Night with the Devil.

SOLUTION

Looper Insights introduced AMCN to their proprietary MPV™ (Media Placement Value) metric, which quantifies the impact of media exposure across all connected devices. MPV™ turns consumer proximity into a dollar value ($MPV™) and estimates impressions (pMPV™) based on CPM data (Cost Per Thousand Impressions), and the number of devices in the market. These insights provided AMC Networks with the tools to benchmark the effectiveness of their paid, editorial, and algorithmic media placements, allowing for smarter decisions and more targeted strategies.

By analyzing data from Smart TVs, set-top boxes, and streaming devices, Looper Insights identified a strong correlation between merchandising efforts for AMC+ and the total number of streams. This data allowed AMCN to predict viewership based on MPV™ scores, providing a blueprint for aligning marketing efforts across all platforms and predicting the investment needed to achieve streaming goals.

RESULT

Looper Insights’ analysis revealed a strong correlation between MPV™ and total streams for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and Late Night with the Devil. These results corroborate MPV™ as an accurate predictor of title performance and allow AMCN to confidently forecast the resources and financial investments required to hit viewership targets, helping them fine-tune their strategy by prioritizing platforms with higher growth potential on future campaigns.
