LONDON, 28 October 2026: Looper Insights, the CTV Interface Intelligence company, has been granted US Patent No. 12,762,878 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent covers a method, system and device for analysing how titles, apps and other content are placed on the user interfaces of connected TVs and other devices, and for modelling what each position on those screens is worth.
For studios, streamers, broadcasters and rights holders, the TV home screen has become some of the most commercially important real estate in entertainment. A title in the first row of a platform’s home screen during launch week is in a very different commercial position from the same title three rows down or two clicks deep. Yet what appears on that screen changes by device, operator, country and hour. Approaches that rely on viewers photographing and submitting their own screens cannot cover a platform’s full offering, and the quality of what they return is inconsistent.
What the patent covers
The patented approach connects scanning devices to televisions, set-top boxes and other devices to capture the interface as a viewer sees it, including the screens inside apps and menus. Captured images are sent to Looper’s servers, where image recognition and optical character recognition identify each title, app icon and piece of artwork, and match it to a known asset even when the artwork, language or format varies.
Each asset’s placement is recorded by page, row, column and position. Captures carry time and location, so placement can be compared across devices, markets and dates. The patent also covers modelling the relative value of different positions on a screen. Putting a value on that visibility is what Looper’s Media Placement Value (MPV™) metric is for.
One layer of a wider system
The patent protects part of a capability Looper has been building since before its UK priority filing in March 2023. Its value to customers comes from how that capability connects to everything around it.
Looper tracks placement, merchandising, artwork, banners, price and availability across more than 250 connected TV platforms in 25 countries and more than 600 digital storefronts in 120 countries. Operator storefronts and webstores are tracked on the same schedule and normalised into one view, with up to eight years of price history. Looper maintains curated competitor title lists for each customer, so a title’s visibility is always read against the titles it actually competes with. MPV™ then turns that visibility into a value.
Customers interrogate this intelligence through Looper AI, using its Chat function to ask questions of their data in plain language, or connecting it to their own AI agents and systems through MCP and API. Every data feed comes with support and a data licence.
In practice, that combination answers commercial questions no single dataset can. A studio can check whether the promotion agreed with a distribution partner appeared where, when and in the markets it was promised. A streamer can see how its service and titles are positioned on the devices and operator platforms where viewers first arrive. Both can put a value on the difference.
“Everyone in this industry knows that where a title sits on the screen affects how it performs,” said Lucas Bertrand, Founder and CEO of Looper Insights and the patent’s inventor. “The hard part is proving it. You have to see what is actually on hundreds of different interfaces in dozens of countries, know exactly which title is in which spot, compare it with what competitors are getting, and put a number on it that will stand up in a negotiation. We’ve spent years building the infrastructure to do all of that, end to end. This patent protects one important piece of it. What our customers pay for is that every piece works together.”
