NBCUniversal’s expanded partnership with YouTube has been framed as a streaming distribution deal. But in a new op-ed for TV Tech, Francesca Pezzoli, VP of Marketing at Looper Insights, argues that its real significance runs much deeper – it’s a window into where the next phase of CTV competition is heading.
Drawing on a recent Looper Insights survey of C-suite executives across streaming services, broadcasters, agencies and CTV platforms, Francesca makes the case that the most valuable position in connected television is no longer simply owning popular shows, movies or sports. It’s owning the starting point – the screen viewers open first when they sit down to watch. The survey data adds weight to that argument: 73% of respondents described the Peacock-YouTube deal as very significant or game-changing, while nearly three-quarters expect YouTube’s next phase to be driven by aggregation.
What does that mean for every company that has spent years building the CTV home screen? Francesca explores what the deal signals for platforms and broadcasters alike – and why becoming the front door to television viewing may be the most powerful position of all in the streaming market ahead.
